tess-break-free-be-fit 2b mindset mentor 2b mindset certified mentor 2b mindset coachHey there, new friend. I’m Tess. I’m so happy you found Break Free Be Fit. If you love food, wellness, and a little laugh-at-life humor, you’re at home here. I hope you’ll feel empowered by the posts on this site. As someone who’s battled compulsive over eating my entire life; I am a person in recovery here to offer hope, support, and encouragement to others who struggle.

I want to help you break free from the emotional bondage of food & dieting.

I can remember thinking about “diets” in elementary school. By the time I was 13, I was already in a vicious cycle of binge eating and restricting. I got down to a size zero and somehow still believed that wasn’t good enough. I wrongly believed that the number on my bathroom scale and the size of my jeans determined my value as a female and as a human. If that’s you today, I want to take a little off your shoulders, friend. I love this quote from professional cyclist, Christine D’Ercole: “you are bigger than a smaller pair of pants.” We have to own this truth, friends!

Back in 2012, a friend of mine made a post on Facebook challenging her friends to “eat clean.” I had no idea what that meant at the time but I felt so unhealthy. So unbalanced. So totally spent and tired of being a slave to food that I was willing to try anything. I spent the next few days and weeks researching clean eating and after one month of putting that way of eating into practice, I was down 13 pounds.

For the first time in my life, I felt free from the stronghold of cravings, binge eating, and my “fat pants.”

I’d never experienced freedom from the bondage of emotional eating before. I ate emotionally for all reasons and gained A LOT of weight doing so. The cycle of addiction, restriction, and binge was like a black cloud hovering steadily over me through the years. Breaking free from sugar and the processed foods that seemingly held me together for so many years allowed me to feel alive, finally.

I knew right away that I needed to help others feel the way I felt. In 2012, this blog was born. In 2018, this site migrated to a new platform; posts are being weeded out, and content is being refreshed for relevancy. I want this site to be organized and helpful for all who stop by.

Oh, and a few more things.

I’m a wife, mom of six, professional writer, coffee-lover, and sock hater. In addition to momming, working and blogging, you can find me on my Peloton; lifting heavy; or doing some PiYo poses. I love a good read, home decor, anything funny, spending time with friends, spontaneous dance parties, strong cheese, and good red wine.
